Julian G. Farley

FARLEY, Julian G., age 85, of Waynesville, passed away peacefully Friday, January 12, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family. Julian was a servant of others in every aspect of his life. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong faithful member of the Waynesville First Baptist Church, now known as the Waynesville Community Church. He worked for over 18 years at the church, but his entire lifetime he enjoyed sharing about the Gospel. He started helping the church by driving their bus to different events. One of his proudest achievements was creating Homebound Ministries. Every Tuesday night, he would drop off recordings of Sunday’s service and visit with the homebound members. He was also the church’s custodian for years and was a leader in the Awana program for the youth. He was most well-known for his continuous faithful service as the greeter every Sunday morning at the church. Even up to his last weekend, Julian could be seen with his warm and friendly grin, a handshake or hug, and a genuine welcome to the place he considered his second home. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. ~ John 12:26 In addition, Julian worked for 18 years at Dayton Fireplace Systems with his son, Julian Jr. He assisted as a community aid in Waynesville for several years. He was considered the right-hand man, an associate of Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville for ten years. He retired from Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home to devote himself to serving his wife Doris, who needed additional care at home. The amount of love and care he had for his wife was unconditional, and he went above and beyond what many spouses would or could do for their loved ones. Humble, kind, and compassionate, Julian was known for encouraging others, lifting their spirits, and lightening the mood. Several people mentioned that he was the only adult in a room who would ever recognize and attend to the children as much as he would the adults. He treated everyone like they were family, never knowing a stranger. He just appreciated being able to help others. He would always drop whatever he was doing to help out, no matter who called or what they needed. He never put limitations on anyone; he just wanted to give them his full support. All he wished for those around him was that they had happiness and were full of success, and he would help make that happen in any way he could. His family was everything to him. He relished in spending time with his kids, grandkids, and even great-grandkids. He would brag to close friends about the updates on his family and glisten in his eyes with pride about what they had accomplished. Many will miss his big belly laughs while telling stories, for he always had an ornery side. He cherished the many family camping trips to Dale Hollow with his family and extended family. Holidays, grill outs, bonfires, birthdays, and any other family gathering were times that Julian would look forward to. He loved being around people, especially those he loved. He loved his dog, Papaya, who was a very loyal companion. He was known for his routine in Waynesville. He would go to the post office, the Bridge, the funeral home, and then to see Doris. Every day he tried to do this routine and it was comforting to see him at all his stops where he will be missed by many. Among many things, he will be remembered for the pride, love, and joy he had for his two boys, Julian Jr. and Jarome, and their families. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Doris, in 2020; his parents, James “Stanley” and Ocie Farley; one brother, Charles Farley; one sister, Barbara Blevins; two brothers-in-law, Jason Frantz and Harold “Shorty” Horn; and two sisters-in-law, Mary and Brenda Farley. He is survived by his two sons, Julian (Angie) Farley Jr. and Jarome Farley (Robyn Gosbee); six grandchildren, Abe Farley, Reed Farley (Allyssa Kisling), Zeb (Brittany) Farley, Ema Farley, Mya Farley, and Xin Farley; four great-grandchildren Brayden, River, Summer, and Winter; three brothers, Jimmy Farley, Jiles (Sharon) Farley, and Dale Farley; two sisters, Wilda Frantz and Ruth Horn; his faithful companion, Papaya; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. The funeral service will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 17, at the Waynesville Community Church. Brandon Larson and Philip Hopper will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM on Tuesday, January 16, at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
