Marlene E. Osborne

OSBORNE, Marlene E., age 85, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital. After high school, Marlene attended the Mt. Carmel School of Nursing, earning an RN degree. Early in her career, she worked as a school nurse for Wayne Local Schools in Waynesville for a few years. She served the next 35 years in the Prenatal Clinic at the Warren County Health Department, retiring in 2009 as the coordinator. With a nursing background, neighbors and friends often relied on Marlene to determine if a doctor or hospital visit was warranted for their children. She took pride in caring for others. Marlene was a lifelong member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Waynesville, where she raised her children with a proper Catholic upbringing. Loving, friendly, and honest, Marlene welcomed anyone who came to the house. She was independent and stubborn, in a good way. She lived an extremely active lifestyle and never sat still for long. She was raised on a vegetable farm where hard work was expected, which instilled in her a strong work ethic. While the boys were growing up, she proudly supported their numerous 4H livestock projects. Osborne camping trips were a family tradition - in tents during the early years and cabins later, at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Camp Resorts all over the Midwest. She immensely enjoyed rose gardening and working in the yard throughout her life. In addition, she was a huge fan of Ohio State football, whereby Saturdays in the fall were devoted to friends and family joining her at the house to cheer on the Buckeyes. She loved Buckeye football so much that she kept a cable service subscription to get the Big 10 channel and never missed a game. She also enjoyed traveling with Ken, exploring favorite places like Yellowstone National Park, an Alaskan cruise, and a road trip from Seattle to San Francisco. Marlene’s greatest pride and joy was her family! She always felt so blessed to have such a connected and loving family. It was tradition for nearly all her life to host Sunday morning breakfast for not only family but neighbors and friends, which continued until her last days. In addition, Christmas Eve was always at their home, where she took pride in decorating the home inside and out and ensuring everyone in attendance received gifts. Known for her cooking, she enjoyed baking many Christmas cookies and fudge, a holiday tradition she inherited from her mother. It was also a family tradition to host the Bihl family reunion each year at her home. Everyone would pitch a tent in the yard and bring food to share. Marlene made sure no one ever went hungry at an Osborne gathering! She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken, in 2019; her parents, William and Elizabeth Bihl; one brother, Bill Bihl; and three sisters, Jean Scherer, Mary McClelland, and Sharon Dillow. She is survived by six sons, Joe, Steve, Tim (Fiancé Jenny), Ken “Tate” Jr. (Becky), Jeff (Pam), and Tom (Teri) Osborne; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; and many extended family members and close friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Saturday, August 13, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Waynesville. Father James Manning will be officiating the services.
