Alva L. Swanson-Strande

February 28, 1925 - January 18, 2017

Alva L. Swanson-Strande (nee Johnson) entered into eternal life 18 January 2017. She was born 28 February 1925 in Wautoma, Wisconsin, to Olga (nee Schmudlach) and John “Bernie” Johnson. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert F. Swanson, M.D., her second husband Andrew Strande, her sisters Berna Gray and Myra Johnson. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Swanson Smith, brother John Gerald Johnson and his wife, Geraldine Johnson, nephews Rodney (Diane) and Dean (Ann) Johnson, niece Pamela Johnson Coffey, nine great-nieces/nephews, and step-daughter Katherine Strande. Alva was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, class of 1945. Alva’s life can best be described as a selfless and loving care-giver and a true living example of loving your neighbor as yourself. She was a model of strength, courage and love. Alva and her first husband, Robert F. Swanson, M.D., provided medical care to thousands of patients for over 25 years in Fairborn, Ohio. Alva also provided in-home care for her mother, eldest sister, and both husbands during their end of life struggles. Alva enjoyed many wonderful days boating and fishing at Indian Lake, as well as domestic and international travel. Alva was a generous contributor to many charities, and the Mt Morris Holden Lutheran Church (Wisconsin) held a special place in her heart, as it was her childhood church and her grandfather was one of the Norwegian immigrant founders. Special and heartfelt appreciation goes to the staff at Quaker Heights Care Community, Waynesville, and Hospice of the Miami Valley. A memorial service will be held at a later date, with interment at Mt Morris Holden Lutheran Church Cemetery, Mt Morris, Wisconsin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville is serving the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Mt Morris Holden Lutheran Church, N3388 State Rd 152, Mt Morris, Wisconsin, 54982. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
