Cheri L. Leyes

July 16, 1958 - December 10, 2020

LEYES, Cheri L., age 62, of Waynesville, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2020 at her residence.   Cheri graduated from Chapmanville High School in West Virginia, class of ’77.  She was an active member of the Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, where she took pride in helping others in the congregation with rides to church, volunteering time to aid in church activities, and helping those in need.   Joyful, caring, independent, giving, outgoing, and kind, Cheri was a light in the lives of all who knew her. Cheri loved to read the Bible and signing hymns with her church. She was known for how much she enjoyed decorating her home and for her love of spending time with her three grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, but it was her cheeseball and love of baking that she will be remembered most for. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting, eating at the Golden Lamb restaurant in Lebanon, and collecting Longaberger baskets and dinnerware.  While her kids were growing up, she loved spending precious time with them as well as cheering them on during their extracurricular activities like soccer, tennis, dance and more.  With nine siblings, the family get togethers and holidays spent in West Virginia will always be remembered as some of her greatest memories.  Cheri loved to travel and sightsee. Recently, the trip spent at Lake Cumberland with her immediate family, complete with a pontoon boat and hiking the trails along the lake, provided some immeasurable memories.  She also recently took a trip with her husband to Biltmore Estate in North Carolina that she loved. Cheri cherished her “sister-cruise” that she was able to take with all of her sisters in St Maarten.  She was preceded in death by her parents Charles Otis and Lois Faye Farris.  She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Chris; two daughters Jessica (Ryan) Silver and Kirsten (Jared) Jones; three grandchildren Owen, Carter, and Collin; three brothers Charlie Jr., Gary, and Larry Farris; and six sisters Robin Collins, Janice Conley, Cindy Bertsch, Lurleen Tate Smith, Charlotte Lerch, and Regina Scarberry. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, December 15 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville.  Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin.  Pastor Matt Morgan will be officiating.  The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Monday at the funeral home.   During this difficult time, if you are feeling ill or unhealthy in any way, you are encouraged to pay your respects in alternative methods, such as sending a sympathy card or sharing a memory though our online tribute wall. In addition, the visitation and funeral service will be streamed live via the internet. If you wish to view the services on the live stream, please reach out to the funeral home at [email protected] to be added to the list. Be sure to bring your mask to wear while you are inside the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
