November 29, 1937 - March 12, 2022
Connie Allford Arnold Gates, “Grams”, of Waynesville, Ohio, went home to be with Jesus on March 12, 2022. Connie was born November 29, 1937, in West Milton, Ohio, to Ralph and Elinor Allford. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Arnold; her brother, Ron Allford; and her son, Chuck Gates. She is survived by her sons Scott Arnold and Jim Gates, and her daughter and son-in-love, Terri Arnold Doepel and Glen Doepel. Also surviving her are her grandsons and granddaughter, Grant and Kyla Doepel, and Hunt Doepel (obviously her favorite person). Her great-granddaughters were her biggest cheerleaders: Arabella, Everly, and Coralynn Doepel. Her grandson, Corry Gates, brought her such joy. She is also survived by her long-time, dear friends Gloria Duggins and Marian Brown and the many close friends who became her extended family. Connie was a lifelong Waynesville United Methodist Church member in Waynesville, Ohio. She was a retired secretary of a psychiatric medical practice and was also known for the many years she spent as an employee of Waynesville National Bank. Connie was known as “Grams” to so many. She was kind, gentle, and adored her family—and the friends of her family. Her favorite times were spent going on vacations with her family, attending band competitions and baseball games of her grandsons, going to picnics with her church family and extended friends, and time spent with Scott at his home surrounded by beautiful flowers. Her hobbies included eating strawberry ice cream and going “to Tammy’s” to get her hair “done”. She was an always-available audience to her great-granddaughters and their frequent impromptu living room dance performances. She was great at keeping secrets with her grandsons from their parents. The unconditional love and forgiveness she gave to her children was a small glimpse of what Heaven will be. While we will all miss Grams immensely, and our hearts are aching at the void she has left, we are so grateful for the promise that we will be with her together someday—forever and ever. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 21, at the Waynesville United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Brian Blankenship will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Sunday at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
