September 9, 1930 - March 10, 2022
SLORP, Donald “Gene,” age 91, of Lebanon, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022. Gene graduated from New Madison High School, class of ’48. He attended the Lebanon Presbyterian Church since 1961. He retired in 1990, after 38 years of being a field engineer for Standard Register printing. When Gene was younger, he enjoyed playing any sport that included a round ball, from volleyball, tennis, basketball, and even baseball. This hobby led to him enjoying golf, and every Tuesday, he would regularly go to the greens with the neighborhood men. His favorite interest was radio-controlled airplanes, and Gene passed on this interest to his son, Daniel, and grandsons. He was a member of the Miami Valley Radio Control Club when it was located on Ohio 741 in Lebanon. Among many things, he will be remembered for being a true gentleman who was kind, caring, and considerate. He was preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Frances Slorp, two brothers Gerald and Richard Slorp, and one sister Juanita Froning. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Marilyn; one son Daniel Slorp; two daughters Elizabeth “Libby” (Richard) Campbell and Sara (John) Stegemoller; three grandchildren Benjamin (Kendra) Stegemoller, Eric (Negin) Stegemoller, and Nicholas Campbell; and one great-grandchild Theodore Stegemoller. The family will receive friends from 10:30 am – 11:00 am Saturday, April 9, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home. Immediately following at 11:00 am, there will be a memorial service. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
