James L. Tipton
January 28, 1931 - March 19, 2022
TIPTON, James L., age 91, of Lebanon, passed away Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Ohio Living Quaker Heights in Waynesville. James retired from GM in September 1983, after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of the Hopkinsville Church of Christ. Kind, caring, and he loved to tease people and joke around with them. It made his day if he could get you in a joke. Throughout his life, he enjoyed all types of country and bluegrass music. During the summers, he had a passion for growing large gardens that contained a minimum of 100 tomato plants. During the harvest season, he gave the majority of the produce to others. He had a knack for going to garage sales and finding odds and ends, almost always walking away with a few radios that didn’t work. For the next few days and weeks, he would fix the radios back into working order and then give them to his friends and family members. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he loved to go fishing, especially at Caesar Creek and Cowan Lake. He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma F. Tipton, in 2021; one son Keith Tipton; parents Edward and Mamie Tipton; three sisters Thelma Hawk, Ona Dempsey, Mavis LeMaster; one brother-in-law Eddie Brown; and one sister-in-law Mary Tipton. He is survived by his daughter Sharon (Paul) Kindell; son Kevin Tipton (Jennifer “Jen” Schott); daughter-in-law Sherri Tipton; three grandchildren Bethany (David) Falter, Joshua (Samantha) Tipton, and Jordan (Melissa) Tipton; two great-granddaughters Melody and Hailey; three brothers Raymond (Gail), Bobby (Sandy), and Silas Tipton; and one sister Peg Brown. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday, March 26 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Scott Gravitt will be officiating. Burial will be in Turtlecreek Cemetery. The family will receive friends 12 PM - 2 PM Saturday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
