Kenneth O. Hough

June 13, 1957 - March 28, 2022

HOUGH, Kenneth O., age 64, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, March 28, 2022, at his residence. Kenneth was a 1975 graduate of Waynesville High School. A lifelong farmer, he greatly enjoyed raising pigs, sheep, and various crops. He was affiliated with the Lytle United Methodist Church. Quiet, happy, and always cheerful to others, Kenneth always had a smile, never complained, and liked to tease others for fun. While he often enjoyed teasing his sister the most, he once tricked his young niece and nephew by claiming that a Waynesville historical figure had buried a hidden treasure in the ground. Thus, his story enticed the children into digging a much-needed hole for him and thereby giving him a great laugh in addition to his task. His hobbies included woodworking and playing chess. He loved farming and gardening, which along with his family, led him to establish the little pumpkin patch farm market at the end of Old 73 in Waynesville, whereby he supplied residents with their much-needed spring flowers, mums, and pumpkins each year. He also raised honey bees for honey, corn, and tobacco. He appreciated history, which led to a side hobby of buying and selling antiques. In addition, he collected fossils and arrowheads from the ground he farmed and worked. Among many things, he will always be remembered for the tradition of preparing an enormous hamburger to share with friends and family, which was motivated by a TV commercial back in the ‘70s. The hamburger itself was prepared every other year for several years, resulting in the creation of a device to flip the hamburger, and drew residents and television news crews for the unique concept, all for fun and bringing people together. He was preceded in death by his father, Lorin Hough. He is survived by his mother, Deloris Hough; sister Susan E. Hough Hetzel (Jeff); niece, Trina Hetzel; nephew, Curtis Hetzel; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. The family will receive friends 10 AM - 12 PM Saturday, April 2, at the Lytle United Methodist Church in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will follow the visitation at noon on Saturday, followed immediately by a luncheon all at the church. Brian Blankenship will be officiating the services. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation, Hospice of Dayton, or the Lytle United Methodist Church.
