May 4, 1964 - March 7, 2021
LONG, Marlene R., age 56, of Lebanon, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2021. Marlene graduated from Madison High School in Richmond, Kentucky. She went back to school and earned an Associate’s Degree from Miami University in 2003. She faithfully attended Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Waynesville for nearly 30 years, where she volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, worked with youth activities, enjoyed decorating for church events, and was especially known for singing and playing the piano during services. In addition, she was always willing to assist in fund raising for missions and youth activities. Of more recent times, she had been attending New Beginnings Church in Middletown. She was the founder and current owner of RW Long Lumber and Box Company. An entrepreneur through and through, she flipped houses for an income and worked in medical records for the Atrium Medical Center for a time. Described as a fingerprint of God, Marlene left His impression on all who knew her. She had an active lifestyle, extremely helpful to others, loyal, generous, humble, comforting to those who hurt, always found the good in others, and was the ultimate example of living as an inspiration to anyone she met. As a wife, she was a best friend, partner in business, a guide, and a great mother to their kids. Her hobbies included fishing and crafts with friends and family. When she was younger, she helped her father on the farm in Kentucky raising tobacco. She loved cooking and was known for her cherry cheesecake delights, Oreo desert, taco salads (especially when she volunteered for funerals), and worked to master the art of preparing chicken and dumplings. Her crafts included scrapbooking, chalk art, and painting. Of course, her kids and grandkids were always a priority. She was always supportive of their interests, which included 4H projects, raising cattle, hogs, and chickens, among other things. Among many things, she will be remembered for how much she loved visiting her parents in Kentucky when her kids were young, and then traveling to Okeechobee, Florida for visits as the years grew older. The times spent visiting Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg with family and the many trips to view the fall foliage over the years, will always be remembered as some of her favorite memories. As a token of her inspiring character traits toward others, she once won a Rook tournament in one of her Smokey Mountain vacations, and while her husband humorously ravished in the joy of the win, she felt compelled to show humbleness to those who lost the game. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Robert “Bob” Long and step father-in-law David Dixon. She is survived by her eternally grateful husband of 37 years, Rodney; son Roderic (Danielle) Long; daughter Bettina (Emmanuel) Shobanke; two grandchildren Lilah and Weston; her father and mother Frank and Sylvia Hill; one sister Anita Hill; mother-in-law Lora Dixon; and two nieces LaBreeska McCormack and Jenna (Carl) Leathers. Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Saturday, March 13 at the Dodds Pentecostal Church in Waynesville. Pastor James Setser and Tim Noble will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 5:00 - 8:00 PM Friday, March 12 at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to House of Refuge, ALMI at 9440 Eby Rd., Germantown, Ohio 45327. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
