September 14, 1937 - June 6, 2020
FARLEY, Mary M., age 82, of Harveysburg, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2020 at her residence with her family by her side. Mary attended the First Baptist Church in Waynesville. Known affectionately as the “Jelly Lady,” Mary was well known throughout the area for making and passing out jelly and jams to everyone she had any contact with. From doctors to the local funeral home, family and friends, and anyone willing to accept some of her love, they received Mary’s jelly and jam. Very caring with a heart of gold, Mary was strong-willed yet loved everyone. She greatly enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, crafts, and painting with her daughter, Brenda. She was an excellent cook and loved to bake, especially her adored carrot cakes, Texas hash, peanut brittle, dressing, and potato salad. Her carrot cakes were so popular that family members always requested one for their birthdays, and she was routinely requested to prepare some for auctions that benefit the graduates in the family. In her free time, she loved to shop, especially at Kohl’s and at shoe stores. When she was younger, the many trips with family to Dale Hollow Lake in Tennessee in the old bus, were always a favored memory of Mary. After the kids were raised, she also loved traveling with her husband to Tennessee to visit her sister and brother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her son, James Stanley Farley III; one great grandson, Joseph Langford; her parents, James and Goldie McDonald; three brothers, Tommy, Johnny, and Jimmy McDonald; and three sisters, Martha Cornett, Pauline White, and Bert Rockhold. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James “Jim”; five daughters, Brenda (Mike) Greer, Vickie Farley, Mary (Rick) Hairfield, Tina Farley-Huey; and Tomi Farley; assumed sons, Donald “Hatchet” Haines and Jim Bob; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Sandy) McDonald; and one sister, Goldie (Tim) Howard. Funeral services will be held 12 PM Tuesday, June 9 at the First Baptist Church in Waynesville. Dale McCloud and Tommy Chattin will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Monday at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Crossroads Hospice.
