Mary C. Hammonds
November 11, 1938 - December 30, 2020
HAMMONDS, Mary C. Age 82, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Bethany Lutheran Village in Centerville. Mary was a faithful member of the Waynesville First Baptist Church since 1963, where she taught Sunday School for many years. The Waynesville community will certainly remember her as a dedicated employee at Ellis Super Value in Waynesville for 43 years, always assisting customers in the front by happily greeting them as they checked out. Family oriented, kind, loving, outgoing, sincere and deeply loved, Mary was a people person who always sought out the good in everyone. Church was her life, especially spending time studying the Bible with “her girls” at Sunday School. She greatly enjoyed traveling over the years, visiting Hawaii, Alaska, Florida, several cruises, Michigan, and many trips to the western parts of the United States, primarily to visit the National Parks, but always with the purpose of spending quality time with her family. She collected ceramic Christmas village figurines, which was always enjoyed by her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and especially known for her chicken and dumplings and beef and noodles. Among many things, she will be remembered for her tradition of always having her grandsons spend Friday night with her as they were growing up, making them macaroni and cheese and taking them to Hardee’s for breakfast on Saturday morning. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Virgie Osborne and her sister Elaine Gordon. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Rob and Sheila Hammonds; two grandchildren Lucas Hammonds (fiancée Robin Lewis) and Isaac (Kassidy) Hammonds; great grandson Easton; two sisters Naomi (Chuck) Spangler and Phyllis McLaughlin; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Monday, January 4, 2021 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Jeff Douglas will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Sunday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Bethany Lutheran Village.
