Paul C. Schwamberger

July 18, 1926 - February 14, 2017

SCHWAMBERGER, Paul Clifford, age 90, of Clarksville, passed on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017. He was surrounded by family at Quaker Heights Care Community. After serving in the army during WWII, Paul graduated from Wilmington College with a bachelor’s degree and received his master’s from Xavier University. He worked as a physical education teacher, baseball coach, athletic director and principal for Clinton Massie. After working 10 years as a superintendent at Wayne Local Schools, he retired in 1990 as the superintendent of the Clinton Massie Local School District. He was honored to be inducted into both the Clinton County and the Clinton Massie Hall of Fame for his achievement and dedication as coach for the baseball program. Even from a young age he was known for his athletic ability and love of baseball, basketball, and golf. If he wasn't playing, he was coaching students, or cheering for his grandchildren. As a fitting tribute, the baseball diamond at Clinton Massie is named in his honor. In 1957, Paul and his father built the family home, where he and his loving wife, Virginia, raised their three girls. Over the years, he was an integral member of the Clarksville United Methodist Church and with Virginia, received the symbolic "Key to Clarksville" for their years of service to the community. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Doris Schwamberger; two brothers Howard and Russell Schwamberger; two sisters Temp (Mid) Bahner and Virginia Cooley; his parents in law, Arthur and Ruth Jones, one sister-in-law Loretta Bennett, and one nephew Arthur Conley. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Virginia; three daughters Patricia Davis, Susan Paulette Douglass, and Margaret (Randy) Wheeler; three grandchildren Jennifer (Bob) Bevan, Rachel Fague, James Paul (Ashley) Wheeler; three great grandchildren Brianna Bevan, Luke Bevan, Sloane Wheeler; one sister Norma (Ray) Wiltshire; two sisters-in-law Linda Lawson and Donna (Wayne) Lykins; and two brothers-in-law Don Cooley and Gene Bennett. Also surviving are Paul's nieces and nephews: Mike (Gay) Cooley, Jonathon (Annette) Cooley, Roger (Betty) Bahner, Jeff (Dreama) Flowers, Greg (Jill) Flowers, Karen (Dee) Mauk, Paul (Sondi) Conley, Lynette Conley, Beth (Scott) Osterholt, David (Cheryl) Bennett, and Cathy (Dwight) Jennings. Memorial services 1 PM Sat. March 4 at Clarksville United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends 12 - 1 PM Sat. at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville will be serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Clarksville United Methodist Church, Clinton Massie Athletic Dept.-- the Paul Schwamberger Baseball Field, or in Paul's memory, perform a kind deed to help another person.
