Dr. Ray L. Shelton

June 26, 1925 - July 23, 2017

Shelton, Dr. Ray L. age 92, of Waynesville, went home to be with his LORD Sun. July 23, 2017. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean in 2007, his parents Ray and Beatrice Shelton, and three sisters. He is survived by three children; Chery (Buddy) Turner, Ray (Beth) Shelton, and Faith Shelton; three grandchildren Misty McBroom, Megen Saez, and Melissa Gibson; seven great grandchildren; and one sister Junann Miller. Ray was a pilot in Germany during WWII in the Army Air Corp. He left the Air Force as a Captain in 1950. His love of flying began at a very early age and he continued to fly whenever he could. In 1951, he joined The GOOD SHIP ZION television program on WHIO. He served as Lieutenant for 20 years, becoming Captain for another 21 years. Good Ship Zion, at 41 years, was the longest running, local and weekly, Gospel TV program in the nation. Pastor Shelton was a man of unquestionable faith, with a heart for people. He proudly earned his doctorate degree. He served as a pastor for Ridgeville Community Church for 29 years. Along with his wife Jean, he founded Ridgeville Christian School. He enjoyed guiding and working with the youth of the church. He made many trips to Israel, where the Word of God came alive for him. He and Jean retired from full time ministry in 1993. He loved studying GOD’S Word, learning, and reading scores of books. Funeral services 2 PM Wed. July 26 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville. Private burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 12 PM - 2 PM Wed. at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
