Virginia M. Hill

August 6, 1933 - May 10, 2022

HILL, Virginia M., age 88, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at Wood Glen Alzheimers Community in Dayton. Virginia graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’51. She worked several years at DESC and retired as a secretary for the US Army Corps of Engineers. She was a former member of the Waynesville First Church of Christ. She was a firm believer in God and found peace in reading the Bible daily. She took pride in reading the Bible cover to cover over 20 times. Being in the kitchen was one of Virginia’s favorite pastimes. She was an amazing cook and enjoyed being able to whip up everyone’s favorite dishes. With a caring personality, she looked forward to taking her delicious dishes to others so they could enjoy them. She had a mind like a steel trap and could easily rattle off a recipe from years ago. Later in life, she took pleasure in watching old TV shows and movies, especially the Andy Griffith Show and Bonanza. Among many things, she will be remembered for her love of family and her gift of gab. She relished when it was time for family reunions and everyone could see each other again. Often during Thanksgiving, Virginia talked with her sisters well into the morning, just enjoying their time together. She always wanted everyone to be remembered on their birthday and Christmas, so it became a tradition to send everyone cards. Over the years, she also greatly appreciated all of the birthday cards back to her and collected them. Her family’s post office box, which she received from her parents and it had been in the family for 75 years, was something she was proud of. It became a daily tradition to go to the post office to see if she had received anything in the mail. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Sidney Hill, in 1959; her parents Findley and Laura Brown; three brothers Howard, Sam, and Kenneth Brown; and three sisters Alberta Hoak, Mary Hardin, and Mabel Walker. She is survived by her son Randy (Andrea) Hill and three sisters Joan (Dale) Dakin, Janice (Elmer) Powell, and Charlotte (Bob) Lucas. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Saturday, May 14, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be at Centerville- Washington Township Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 AM - 1 PM Saturday at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to Wood Glen Alzheimers Community and Day City Hospice.
