Adah L. Andres' Obituary
ANDRES, Adah L., age 95, of Lexington, Kentucky, formerly of Waynesville, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026, in Lexington.
Adah graduated from Stivers High School, Class of 1948. She continued her education at Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in home economics, an accomplishment she was very proud of. While at Baldwin-Wallace, she was honored as a member of the Homecoming Court and May Day Court and received the Ethel Sapp Tudor Home Economics Award. In addition, she was an active member of the Phi Mu sorority.
She devoted much of her life to caring for others as a homemaker, while also sharing her gifts through teaching in Maryland and Waynesville, as well as working as a bank teller at Peoples Savings & Loan in Waynesville.
Adah was a faithful and active member of the Waynesville United Methodist Church, where she served in many roles, including choir member, church secretary, trustee, and Brownie Scout leader. She was a teacher for both Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. Alongside her husband, she also served as a youth leader within the church. She was actively involved in the United Methodist Women and participated in several women’s circles. Adah dedicated time to many church outreach efforts, including knitting bandages for lepers earlier in her life, working church bazaars, and making candy and baked goods for the Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. Beyond her church involvement, she was a Lioness through her husband’s involvement in the Lions Club and was a member of HEIH, a professional homemakers association, where she was active in the Dayton chapter. Adah, along with her husband, was also involved in the Harveysburg Historical Association and took great pride in owning the John Satterthwaite House in Waynesville, where they diligently worked to have the home placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Adah found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She enjoyed reading her Bible, historical romances, and Amish literature, as well as knitting, sewing, gardening, and working puzzles—especially crosswords. She had a special love for antiquing and refinishing furniture, and treasured time spent sailing with her husband at Cowan Lake. She enjoyed gardening, especially tending to her vegetables, and was known for making currant jelly and even dabbling in winemaking. She also had a deep love for cooking and baking and was known as a true from-scratch cook who could make anything taste exceptional. A devoted animal lover, Adah never hesitated to care for stray animals and give them a loving home. Her faith guided her life, and she took great pride in her volunteer work through the church, living a Christian life of service, and her deep devotion to her family.
Adah was loving, giving, independent, caring, determined, and kind—a true servant leader who poured herself into others. Her family traditions were especially meaningful, from baking Christmas cookies and homemade desserts to making batches of homemade caramels alongside her mother, her daughter, and her mother-in-law—traditions that brought generations together, as well as sharing special recipes like her German dumplings, often referred to as knoephla. She cherished holidays and the time spent gathered together with those she loved most.
She was preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and loving husband of 63 years, Edward A. Andres, Jr.; her parents, Herbert C. Huffer and Geneva R. Huffer (Cox); and her brother, Carl Huffer. She is survived by her son, Kurt (April) Andres; her daughter, Claudia (David) Carroll; her grandchildren, Parker Carroll and Jordan Carroll; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
It is also noteworthy that Adah and her dear friend, Alice Spitznogle, with whom she shared a deep and lasting friendship through both her work and her church, passed away the same day, within an hour of one another.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM on Friday, April 10, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday at the funeral home, with Celebrant Brian Bennett officiating. Burial will follow at Miami Cemetery, Corwin. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Bluegrass in Kentucky or to the Waynesville United Methodist Church. Condolences may be made at https://www.stubbsconner.com.
