Alma Cook's Obituary
COOK, Alma, age 92, of Waynesville, passed away Friday, October 7, 2022.
A faithful Christian devoted to God, Alma was a member of Lighthouse Harbor Free Pentecostal Church in Lebanon.
Loving, caring, funny, helpful, and independent, Alma had a giving heart and loved to show her love to family and friends. She greatly enjoyed sewing and making blankets to give away as gifts. In addition, after attending school to learn cake decorating, she became a bit of a cake artist and loved making cakes to give away. She became known, especially by family, for being an excellent cook. Her homemade country dinners, chocolate pies, apple butter, and sugar cookies will never be forgotten as some of her best. Alma became skilled at playing a lap steel guitar and played in church for over 60 years. She became known for playing the guitar and continued to take pride in playing even when she needed assistance getting up on the stage at church.
It became a tradition while the kids were growing up for Alma, Acie, and the kids to travel to Wilmington Beach in North Carolina every summer for vacation. They always stopped to have picnic lunches along the way, which along with all the usual beach activities, will always be remembered fondly by family. In addition, at Christmas time, Alma always celebrated with a sizeable nine-foot tree and lots of delicious food. She took pride in wrapping the presents perfectly with beautiful wrapping paper, using the paper to create beautiful bows and ribbons to make them unique. Her favorite items included country decor items, dolls, and a beloved schnauzer she named Cody. It was her family, however, that was Alma’s pride and joy her entire life.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Acie, in 1998; her son, Tony Cook; her parents, Merrill and Rachel Sparks; and 14 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Pam (Don) Coffman; four grandchildren, Renee (Dan) Looper, Heath (Lynn) Cook, Paige Burnell (Margaret Trinidad), and Rocky (Mindy) Burnell; step-grandchildren, Dwaine (Mandy) Coffman and Stephanie Coffman; four great-grandchildren, Chelsie Marshall, Heathy (McKinley) Cook, Symphony Burnell, and London (Gabrielle) Burnell; step-great-grandchildren, Cody Coffman, Olivia Coffman, and Logan (Carissa) Clawson; great-great-granddaughter, Avery Parks; step-great-great-granddaughter, Isabella; and Wanda Vance - who Alma always said was her daughter due to their close relationship while Wanda and Pam were growing up.
Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, October 11, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Pastor Larry Isaacs will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends from Noon - 2 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
