Archie M. "Mike" Dawson's Obituary
DAWSON, Archie M. “Mike”, age 83, of Waynesville and formerly of Xenia and Adams County, passed away Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Ohio Living Quaker Heights in Waynesville.
Mike honorably served in the United States Army. He owned and operated Dawson Excavating for over 25 years, which later became Dawson & Son Excavating with the addition of his son, Mark. He worked an additional ten years or so with his wife, Evelyn, owning and operating Mike and Evelyn’s Dairy Bar in New Holland.
Ornery, fun-loving, and outgoing, Mike liked to talk and made friends easily. He taught himself how to play string instruments, which led to a passion for singing and playing country music for many years. He played in several bands and joined other musicians to play in events, get-togethers, and benefits all over Ohio. Music became his favorite pastime, which he became known for in the surrounding area, and he always looked forward to getting together with others. He also enjoyed woodworking. He mainly cut out pieces for household decorations, which enabled him to enjoy a hobby with his wife as she often painted the pieces for display. In addition, he also enjoyed his horses, hunting, and attending tractor pulls with his son, daughter-in-law, and grandson. He loved getting together with family during the holidays to sing, play horseshoe and corn hole, and of course, eat the delicious holiday food. While he always admired string instruments, the time he spent with his family gave him the most pride in his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn, just a few weeks ago; one son, Michael David Dawson; grandson, Joseph Andrew Dawson; his dad, Archie Dawson; his mom and stepdad, Helen and Pat Palmer; two brothers, Denver Palmer and Robert Dawson; and one sister, Patricia “Patty” Chambliss He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dianne Dawson; daughter, Karen Dawson; three grandchildren, Devin (Marissa) Dawson and twins Jacob and Justin Dawson; great-grandchildren, Aliannah and Kynlee; two sisters, Dianne (Emitt) Hall and Little Helen (Palmer) Parks; and several nieces and nephews.
