Arnold "Arnie" Walters' Obituary
WALTERS, Arnold “Arnie”, a true patriot, an outdoorsman, and a devoted Christian, age 83, of Oregonia, passed away Tuesday, July 20, 2021, at Hospice of Cincinnati.
Arnie served in the U. S. Army for a term of four years and reenlisted for another six years in the U. S. Air Force. He retired as an electrician from Navistar in Springfield in 1999 after more than 30 years of service. He was an active and faithful member of the Bethany Baptist Church in Clarksville, where he served as a trustee for many years.
Quiet, loving, caring, helpful, honest, and often snarky in a fun way, Arnie was true and faithful to people and to God. He was an outdoorsman and greatly enjoyed hunting, gardening, and especially fishing. In the years he owned a camper, he enjoyed trips to Paint Creek Lake for camping and fishing. Church activities and revivals were important to him, which always involved going out to eat afterwards each week. He was always tinkering with something, especially his lawn tractor and outdoor jobs. When he spent time indoors, he loved watching westerns and Christian shows on TV. He always looked forward to the Walters and Lyons family reunions during the fall. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he enjoyed the exciting three-week circle tour of the southern states during his honeymoon, which ended with a trip to Myrtle Beach and a tour of the USS North Carolina battleship.
He was preceded in death by his former wife, Phyllis; son, Gary VanHorn; his parents, John and Florence Walters; and one sister, Juanita. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lucinda; five sons, Mark Walters, Matthew Walters, Steve (Becky) Raines, Rick (Debra) Blankenship, and Clint (Shannon) Blankenship; five daughters, Debbie Berard, Lisa (Tom) Bednarczuk, Tammie Bentley, Vicki (Desi) Taulbee, and Diana Arnold; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mary Winona Dick.
Funeral services will be held 10 AM Saturday, July 24 at Bethany Baptist Church in Clarksville. Tim Bradshaw and Tom Chattin will be officiating. Burial will be in Valley View Memory Gardens in Xenia. The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Friday at Bethany Baptist Church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
