Arthur L. Wood's Obituary
WOOD, Arthur Leach age 85 passed away July 28 at his home in Waynesville, OH following a brief fight with lung cancer. A grad of Mechanicsburg High and alumnus of Wittenburg University, he served in the U.S. Marine Corps 1945 - 1949. Employed by Champion Co., Springfield and Gosieger Machinery Co., Dayton. Partner in French Horse Trailer Manufacturing Company and President of A.L. Wood Machine Tools in Cincinnati. He also owned The Stetson House Antiques. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur F. and Marie (Leach) Wood and daughter Vicki (Wood) Keller. Survived by his wife Norma (Henson) Wood of 49 years; daughter Mary (Mark) Russell of Columbus; son Mike (Pam) Roller of KY; son Dr. Larry (Jane) Wood of VA; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Art was a star athlete participating in football as starting Quarterback, basketball and played baseball many years after High School. He was an avid golfer and tennis player. In addition to sports, he collected antique cars including a 1985 TR3A English Sports Car, and loved going to car shows where he won a few trophies. An excellent horseman, he was a member of the Warren County Mounted Posse Search and Rescue Team. A lover of all animals, his favorite was the boxer. Always one to serve his community he was was the coach of the Waynesville Little League Baseball and counselor for the Bits and Spurs 4H Saddle Club. As a member of the Warren County History Center, Art conducted weekly tours at the Historic Glendower Mansion in Lebanon for many years. Memberships included the Ohio Valley Model "A" Ford Club of Cincinnati, International Machine Tool Distributors, Miami Valley Military Affairs Association, Foreman's Club of Springfield, Waynesville Chamber of Commerce, Charter member of the Huffman Prairie League, Triumph Club of Dayton, and various community organizations. Traveling throughout the United States and Europe, motorcycle adventures, rollerblading, and bike riding occupied Art's leisure hours as well as reading. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Friends and relatives are invited to attend an Outdoor Memorial Service in honor of Art at 595 Old Stage RD, Waynesville, OH on Saturday, August 17 at 1:00 pm.
