BIGGS, Barbara Jean, age 86, of Kettering, passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Kettering Health Main Campus.
Barbara spent a majority of her life as a devoted caregiver and advocate for those in need. She dedicated 60 years to serving the elderly, retiring in 1996. Work never stopped even after she stopped getting her paycheck. She regularly attended the Target Dayton Ministries as well as Gospel Mission Church of Dayton.
Loving, caring, and strong-minded, Barbara had a heart of gold. She would drop everything to lend a helping hand, whether it was to a friend or a stranger in need. She was very sentimental and always tried to make those around her happy. Her husband was her heart and soul, she loved John dearly. Some of her fondest memories included taking the camper out and fishing by the river. Her children were the greatest pride of her life, but the she was also a devoted grandmother to her grandbabies. Barbara was an excellent cook and enjoyed preparing elaborate meals and baked goods for loved ones. She was known for mailing pumpkin pies to her children during the holidays. She was affectionately dubbed the best cheesecake maker west of the Mason-Dixon Line. Family gatherings, especially during Thanksgiving, were a highlight of Barbara’s life. She found great joy is bringing everyone together, no matter the distance. She had a large collection of porcelain dolls, angels, and jewelry items. At home, Barbara enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting, and chatting on the phone with family. She had a knack for light-hearted gossip and was known for her straightforwardness. Her family knew she meant business when she crossed her arms, wagged her finger, or used someone’s middle name. Barbara will be remembered most for her radiant smile, infectious laughter, and the love she communicated with her eyes.
