Barbara Ann Blevins' Obituary
BLEVINS, Barbara Ann, age 85, of Lebanon and formerly of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2022, at her home.
Barb was a lifetime member of the Waynesville American Legion Auxiliary Unit 615 and held every position on the unit’s board. She was a devoted member that helped on every project and held the title of “treasurer” for the longest for the Auxiliary. She knew how to stretch a dollar further than anyone else. She was also a member of the Waynesville First Baptist Church. Over her lifetime, she held numerous jobs. She was a clerk for G.C. Murphy in Cincinnati, helped Sue Roark hang wallpaper, was a cashier at Ellis’ Super Valu in Waynesville, and was a seamstress that could create just about anything. She loved sewing and quilting. It was more than just a hobby. It was a passion. Barb could sew almost anything from drapes, upholstery, chair covers, and clothes. Her motto was if it could be sewn, she did it. She would often sew while watching tv, especially if Marty Robbins was on the screen.
She was described as a reticent little lady who sometimes could be pretty opinionated and stubborn. She always had a heart of gold that was an extremely loving and caring mother and grandmother. Over the years, she also collected various dolls and figurines. She has dolls of all kinds, from old antique dolls to collectibles. If it was a doll baby, she wanted it. When her kids were younger, they took a two-week vacation to West Virginia every year. While there, they would have a huge family reunion and sometimes even stop by the Hawks Nest State Park or Bluestone Dam. Among many things, she will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren and great-grandson. She looked forward to making their clothes and playing with them. Some of her most treasured memories were having a tea party and popping popcorn while watching tv with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald, in 1977; parents, James “Stanley” Farley Sr. and Ocie Farley; brother-in-law Jason Frantz; and three sisters-in-law, Mary Farley, Doris Farley, and Brenda Farley. She is survived by her son, Steven (Evelyn) Blevins; her daughter, Sharon (Roger) Hensley; five grandchildren, Jessica Bishop, Roger (Samantha) Hensley, Brittany Blevins (Zach), Ryan Blevins (fiancée Brooklyn Johnson), and Megan Blevins; one great-grandson Logan Bishop; four brothers, Jim Farley, Julian Farley, Jiles (Sharon) Farley, and Dale Farley; two sisters, Wilda Frantz and Ruth (Harold “Shorty”) Horn; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Monday, October 17, at Waynesville Community Church (formerly Waynesville First Baptist Church). Funeral services will be 11 AM Tuesday at the church. Shahne Stone will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Waynesville American Legion Auxiliary Unit 615 and Hospice of Dayton. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
