Bertha Irene Hatfield's Obituary
HATFIELD, Bertha “Irene” (Johns), died peacefully, on March 16, 2016, (Age 90), at her residence, in Waynesville, OH, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
Irene is preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Clifton W. Hatfield, her mother and father Bertha and Zeph Johns, five brothers and two sisters, and her grandparents, Tina and Will Alcorn. She is survived by one sister, Mary Lou Cecil (Bud). She is also survived by her devoted and loving children Lucian, Steve, Jennifer Hatfield and Rosemary Wilson, (Dave); grandchildren Eric and Angie Wilson, Bethany Brant, Michael, Clifton, Jacob, Jonathan, Jasen, Hatfield, Chris Westenbarger, Jill Baechle, Lisa Henahan and Amy Hatfield; 14 great grandchildren Chase, Camryn, Owen, Liam, Cash, Roman, Zachary, Ethan, Taylor, Trent, Makenna, Mason, Caleb, and Landon; one great great grandson, Elrik; and many nieces, nephews and friends throughout KY, TN, and OH.
Irene was born October 13, 1925 in Wilmore, KY, where she attended Wilmore Elementary and High School. In 1941, she met her husband, Clifton and they were married in August, 1943. She was a strong, ever-present member of various churches to include Union Chapel United Methodist Church, where her husband served as pastor for 14 years. Irene’s faith and love for her family and her devotion for her church family was apparent, not only by her presence, but also her actions throughout her entire life. She was a former employee of Schiff Shoe Store in Middletown, OH, where she met her best and life-long friend May Bell Frank. Irene loved sewing, quilting, reading and making many Barbie Dolls.
Family and Friends will honor Irene with a public visitation 6-8 PM Monday, March 21, 2016, and a celebration of life service 10 AM Tuesday, March 22, 2016 all at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville, OH. Irene will be laid to rest next to her husband in Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
