Betty Ann Stammen's Obituary
STAMMEN, Betty Ann, age 88, passed away on Friday, October 28, 2022, at Ohio Living Quaker Heights in Waynesville.
Betty graduated from St. Joseph High School, class of ’52. She retired in 1998 as a supervisor for Sears Roebuck and Co. in Blue Ash. She was a member of the St. Augustine Catholic Church and Ladies Guild. For many years, she assisted with Bingo at the Catholic Church and was a lector. She was a member of the Friends of the Library, Laubach Literacy Action, Adult New Readers, and the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. In addition, she was a member of the Sears Retiree Club in Dayton.
The best way to describe Betty would be the same as if you were trying to describe a saint or an angel. She was caring, patient, spiritually strong, unselfish, giving, joyful, always positive and happy, and always putting others before herself. Among many experiences and accomplishments in life, she was most proud of her family and extended family, each and every one of them.
Christmas and Easter holidays were something that Betty looked forward to each year, mostly because all the family would be together. During Christmas, the family would sing songs, play music together, and watch the grandchildren open presents. They also enjoyed playing games together, especially cards or trivia. The Easter egg hunt with the grandchildren at the house was always a hit during the spring. The warmth of the summer months had Betty out working in her flower and vegetable gardens, where she enjoyed watching the butterflies. The family would all come together to help her with fall cleanup at the house. She had a tradition of always having a Sunday family dinner. The kids would play Wiffle ball in the yard. Betty always enjoyed dancing for fun. As a loving wife to her husband, she lived a life full of love in every aspect. She had a special place in her heart for everyone, especially for her son, Gary. In Betty’s 88 years here, she left a huge impact on everyone that she met and lots of good memories. It is clear to see that, among many things, she will be remembered for the love she had for her family and her constant, unfailing faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. Stammen, in 2016; her parents, Carl and Elizabeth Smith; and her brother, Jim Smith. She is survived by her three sons, David (Sandra), Daniel (Cindy), and Gary Stammen; her three daughters, Sharon (Neal) Shade, Theresa (Jim) Smith, Beth (Chris) Eppich; 13 grandchildren, Chris (Sarah) Burns, Priscilla Burns, Brad Burns, Tara Shade, Allisha Smith, Amanda Smith, Trey Smith, Amy (Matt) Walker, Jeff Stammen, Melanie (Robert) Ginn, Megan Cranmer, Randy Strickmeyer, and Ryan Strickmeyer; 20 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Carl (Ginny) Smith; and one sister, Marie Smith SND.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Thursday, November 3, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Waynesville. Father Bernie Weldishofer will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Valley Memorial Gardens in Centerville. The family will receive friends from 5 – 8 PM Wednesday at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. If desired, contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America or the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
