Betty Lou Terry's Obituary
TERRY, Betty Lou (neé Truesdell), age 92, of Waynesville, peacefully entered into the Paradise of God from the comfort of home on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Born in Noctor, Kentucky, to Jesse William and Kittie Cathern Truesdell, Betty’s early years were marked by her involvement in cheerleading at Breathitt High School, where she was a proud varsity member for four years. Betty married the late Hubert Cecil Terry on July 12, 1950, forming a partnership that was a true testament to teamwork and mutual respect. Together, she and Hubert built a life centered around caring for their children and tending to the many tasks on the family farm in Oregonia, Ohio. Betty was a wonderful cook who prepared three meals daily for her family and was famous for her cornbread. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed canning and preserving all she grew. She especially loved fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from the garden and also enjoyed making her own sauerkraut. She loved flowers and enjoyed making artificial flower arrangements. Betty’s love for the farm animals, especially her cows and bunnies, was a testament to her nurturing character.
Spunky yet quiet and reserved, Betty had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed time with family. In addition to her farm life, she had many fond memories of boating and camping at Cave Run Lake, often accompanied by Hubert and occasionally the children. Betty’s interests included collecting artwork by Thomas Kincaid and Ray Harm, and she was an avid fan of traditional gospel music. She never missed an episode of the Lawrence Welk Show and most recently stayed connected to her faith through livestream services from Antioch Church in Lebanon. Betty’s love for sweets was well-known; she was also known to indulge in her desserts before anything else. Her fun-loving nature and dedication to others will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Betty was preceded by her husband, Hubert Terry; her parents, Jessie and Kittie Cathern Truesdell; and eleven siblings. She is survived by her son, Greg Terry; two daughters, M. Kay Bowers and Pamela Lynn Terry; four grandchildren, Kristopher Halliday, Lucas Bowers, Christin Anne (Christopher) Perry, and Kelly Lynn Kroner (Eli Walker); and three great-grandchildren, Lindsey, Tristen, and Hannah.
The family will receive friends and family from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Friday, September 13, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will take place at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 14, at the funeral home. Chris Perry will be officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery in Corwin. If desired, contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Cincinnati. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
