Billy "Bill" Gene Ralston's Obituary
RALSTON, Billy Gene, age 93, of Springboro, passed away Friday, April 11, 2025, at Courtyard of Centerville.
Born in Adams County, Ohio, Bill graduated from West Union High School in 1950. He served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Korean Conflict. After honorable discharge, he married Emma Jeanne Morgan. He retired in the mid-90s after working 22 years for McCall’s, a printing company in Dayton, and ten additional years at Sycamore Hospital, where his caring and friendly attitude made him a favorite to patients and coworkers alike.
After retirement, he engaged in his favorite hobbies of gardening, repairing anything broken, and spending time with Jeanne, his wife of 65 years, and family. He enjoyed traveling, though he was always ready to return home. A friend to his neighbors, Bill was always ready to “lend a hand” to anyone in need. Bill was a member of the Springboro Grange, Ridgeville Church, and most recently New Freedom Church in Lebanon. He volunteered with the Otterbein Senior Life food pantry and Love Packages.
Besides the pride in his homegrown tomatoes, Bill would tell you he was most proud of his sons, whose success they attribute to his outstanding example of hard work, honesty, self-sacrifice, and belief in education. Known for his quick wit and humor, he always had common-sense answers. He loved pie, and when recently asked what type was his favorite, he responded, “Hot or cold”. He will always be remembered for his big smile, friendly personality, and belief in God. Bill will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma Jean, in 2023; a grandson, Matthew Ralston; his parents, Wylie Ralston and Florence Rousch; and his two sisters, Dorothy Anderson and Betty Zoul. He is survived by his two sons, Michael (Susan) Ralston and David (Teri) Ralston; and seven grandchildren, Olivia (Logan) Matson, Owen, Laura, Hannah, Catherine, Andrew, and Sarah Ralston.
The family will receive friends 5-7 PM Friday, April 18, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A life celebration service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday at the funeral home, followed by burial in Miami Valley Memory Gardens. Pastor Joe Shutts will officiate the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Freedom Church, 840 Miller Rd., Lebanon, Ohio 45036. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
