Billy Carter's Obituary
CARTER, Billy, age 100, of Jamestown, passed away Thursday, June 20, 2024, at his residence.
Born as one of 19 children to Alonzo and Cordelia Carter in Waynesville, Billy grew up on the family farm and worked in agriculture his entire life. He honorably served our country during WWII in the United States Army. In addition to his farm work, he formally retired from Morris Bean & Company in 1988. Billy was a member of the Xenia Church of the Nazarene.
Kind-hearted, caring, always upbeat and positive, and organized, Billy was often described as having a sweet personality and a great sense of humor. He was very organized, always insisting that things be kept neat and tidy, lights should be turned off when not necessary to be on, and items should be put back in their place. Fishing was his favorite hobby. He moved to Shawnee Lake just so he could go fishing, which he did most mornings and evenings all year round. Due to a well-worn path through the neighbor's yard down to the lake that Billy used daily, a sign was humorously placed on the path by his friendly neighbors titled "Old Man's Fisherman Crossing." Although fishing was his favorite hobby, Billy also enjoyed the tradition of visiting his brother's farm to work in the family vegetable garden. Among many things, he will be remembered for his love of blackberry pie.
Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in 2020; his two sons, David and Paul Carter; two grandchildren, Chiquita Carter and Shelley Bledsole; his parents; 14 siblings, Macey Carey, Elsie Davis, Mary Ellen Lacy, Daisy Allread, Raymond Carter, Margie Carter, Joe Carter, Marion Carter, Martha Hoffer, Glen Carter, Robert Carter, and two infant siblings. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Carter and Nancy Carter; 11 grandchildren, Gene Rader, Luther (Gina) Carter, John (Christina) Rader, Angie (Ed) Maki, Paul (Mia) Carter, Daniel (Brandy) Rader, Elaine (Jason) Scott, Jimmie Bledsole II, Amanda Bledsole, Keith (Sara) Carter, and Janae (Clayton) Kipp; 28 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous bonus grandchildren and nieces and nephews; five siblings Pauline Martin, Alice Morris, Donna Greene, Jane Masters, and Jim Carter; and daughters-in-law Janet Carter and Anita Carter.
