Brett Clay Ray's Obituary
RAY, Brett Clay, age 66, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at his home.
Brett was a carpenter for nearly 30 years with Miller-Valentine Construction and a member of the Carpenter Union of Ohio. One of his most notable projects was building the Son of the Beast at Kings Island. When he wasn't working as a carpenter, he enjoyed working on cars with his family and friends. They were always tinkering around in the garage and seeing how fast they could get them to go.
Being hardcore, he lived by his own rules, was completely free, and was well known for his adventurous spirit. With his adventurous spirit, it came with a bit of danger; there were almost no bones in his body that he didn't break at some point or another. Some of his favorite memories occurred with his family and friends at “Deer Camp” in Adams County, a home away from home on 35 acres of wooden terrain. While at camp, riding on dirt bikes and ATVs was a ritual. Just like the camp's name, they usually went hunting while at camp as well. They would camp in the truck's bed while taking in the views of the nature surrounding them.
Though he had a rough exterior, he was always willing to help others and never knew a stranger. Every Sunday morning, he would listen to church services on the radio. He absolutely loved playing billiards. Without fail, he was ready to play pool with anyone who stopped by his home. His family was very special to him. Brett looked forward to reunions when they would go to his Granny's. Every New Year's was a notable occasion because his favorite part was getting some of his dad's sauerkraut rolls. Among many things, he will be remembered for the love and pride he had in his daughter and his extensive collection of hats and license plates.
Brett was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Carl Ray and Jean Ray, as well as three brothers, Glen Ray, Dana Ray, and Aaron Ray. He is survived by his daughter, Rachel (Dave) Robinson; three grandchildren, Courtney Stratton, Derrick Robinson, and Zach Robinson; great-grandson, Bentley Robinson; two brothers, Larry (Bonnie) Ray and Keith Ray; his sister, Vickie Ray; several nieces and nephews; his best friend, Wally (Sheila) Patton; and his beloved Shih Tzu dog.
A celebration of life service will be at 3 PM on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Life Celebrant Katie Mackoway will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 – 3 PM on Friday, January 31. If desired, contributions may be made toward the funeral expenses. Condolences are available at www.stubbsconner.com.
