Carl "Skip" R. Stiles' Obituary
STILES, Carl “Skip” R., age 80, of Waynesville, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Skip graduated from Waynesville High School, class of 1960. After high school, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Morehead State University and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Xavier University. He spent his working career at Kettering City Schools, teaching elementary school in his early working years, serving as the Gifted Coordinator during the middle years, followed by the position of Principal of Moraine Meadows for the later part of his career, for a combined total of 30 years of service. He was inducted into the Kettering City Schools Chester A. Roush Educational Hall of Fame for many years of dedication and excellence to the district.
Outgoing, fun-loving, forgiving, supportive, and frugal, Skip was often ornery in fun ways and especially devoted to his wife, Jenny. During his high school years, he was active in basketball, baseball, and track. He was an integral part of the teams that played for Dan Simpson, which had great basketball success in winning several tournament play rounds. In addition, his baseball team won the Warren County Championship, which he always spoke proudly of. His father, Charlie, encouraged him to participate in 4H and FFA during his younger years, which he carried over to his children while they were growing up. In addition, during the years his kids were young, he was active in the Waynesville Athletic Boosters and assisted with the Waynesville Country Fair. Skip will always be remembered for his leadership and the fun he brought to the fair while turning and cooking chickens. His hobbies included mushroom hunting, vegetable gardening, playing golf, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He always put out a big garden and enjoyed taking the vegetables out to Holly Hills to give to his golf friends. He also loved fishing and had a tradition of going to Canada and Wisconsin with friends to enjoy fishing at its best. It was also a tradition for the family to get together every Sunday for brunch at his mom’s house for many years, which he always looked forward to and still spoke of fondly. Among many things, he will always be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and grandkids and all the good times he had with his numerous friends.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mabel Stiles, and one sister, Mary Joan Cassidy. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jenny; three sons, Scott (Dawn) Stiles, Perry (Amanda) Stiles, and Brad Stiles; and five grandchildren, Dagan, Skylar, Drake, Ashtyn, and Peyton-Riley.
A celebration of life gathering will be held after 6 PM Friday, September 30, at the Waynesville American Legion Post 615. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Waynesville American Legion Post 615 toward the annual 4th of July fireworks (Jenny’s birthday). Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
