Carol was well known for her baking. She was especially known for her chocolate chip cookies made with Nestlé Toll House chips and homemade pies, made from her perfectly made pie crusts. Carol was proud that she was able to pass down her pie crust recipe to her granddaughter, which was passed down to her from her mom. Chocolate and cream pies were among her family’s favorites. Carol enjoyed yard work and flower gardening, especially tending to her iris flowers and vegetable garden. She took pride in canning vegetables from her garden, particularly green beans, and even in recent years purchased corn so she could freeze it for later use.
Carol valued family traditions and independence. She spent winters in Florida caring for her parents until they passed away and later enjoyed traveling on her own to visit friends, including several trips to Canada and Niagara Falls. She also loved visiting garage sales, where she enjoyed searching for unique additions to her collections. Carol had an eye for beautiful items without excess and enjoyed collecting antique funeral fans, pottery, handkerchiefs, thimbles, glassware, and other unique pieces.
