Cecil Lee Wells' Obituary
WELLS, Cecil Lee, age 96, of Waynesville, passed away Monday, December 11, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital-South in Centerville.
Cecil retired from DP&L in 1982, after 32 years of being a foreman who assisted with the outdoor maintenance and supervised the janitors. He was a faithful member of the New Freedom Church in Lebanon. He was a Godly man who strongly believed in kneeling to pray, even as he got older.
As a jack-of-all-trades, he liked thinking out of the box about solving problems. He had a passion for working on cars and motorcycles, especially Harley Davidson and Indians. One of his fondest memories was building an entire bike from a box. Being around the water was a highlight of his, and he picked up the hobby of boating and, in turn, became a good water skier. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. He traveled all over the United States with his family and traveled to Mexico and Canada several times. Cecil was always willing to help others with his sweet, wise, and generous spirit. He would gladly volunteer to mow the grass, clean the gutters, and pick up leaves for his neighbors. He was very loving and intelligent but had a dry sense of humor and a jokester side that liked to pull pranks on his loved ones. He appreciated that he could accomplish the goals he had set for his life. Among many things, he was very proud of his children, supporting them and loving them throughout his entire life. He always looked forward to Thanksgiving and Christmas because the family was together, and he loved the home-cooked meals. He strongly desired to keep the family together because, to Cecil, the family was everything.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Delois, in 2017; two sons, Charles “Chuck” Jerry Wells and Robert “Bob” Lee Wells; one son-in-law, David Taylor; his parents, Ira Wells and Carrie Belle; five brothers, Walt, Bud, Pete, Jim, Freeman; and two sisters Jeanetta and Bertha. He is survived by his three daughters, Betty Wells, Olivia Taylor, and LaDonna A. Russel; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Wells; 10 grandchildren, Scott, Cheryl, Jacqueline, Valerie, Jason, William, Sean, Dawn, Sean, and Gabriel; 19 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many friends, family, and loved ones.
Funeral services at 12 PM Tuesday, December 19, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville. Joe Shutts will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 10 AM -12 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
