Clarence E. Evans' Obituary
EVANS, Clarence, E., affectionately known as “Big C.” due to his stature, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at his residence.
Clarence retired as an electrician from Chapel Electric and IBEW Union 82 in 2004 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Faith Baptist Church in Franklin. Formerly, he was a member of the Waynesville First Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon. In addition, he was a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #26.
A man of few words, Clarence had a kind spirit and was loving, thoughtful, and extremely hardworking. He greatly enjoyed bowling. He bowled in multiple leagues over the years and participated in the USBC Open tournament in Reno, Nevada, several times. He also enjoyed gardening and basketball. Gifted in height, he excelled in basketball during his younger years and enjoyed coaching his son in Junior High basketball and his granddaughter on her 3rd-grade team. Clarence loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and often used sports to connect with them. He could fix anything and was always working on a project. During his younger days, he enjoyed working with cars and even participated in drag racing. He purchased a ’55 Thunderbird several years ago, which he intended to restore to its glory days condition. In his later years, he greatly enjoyed watching and feeding the backyard birds.
When his children were young, Clarence often took his family to Myrtle Beach for a classic beach vacation, staying in the Wayfarer Motel. Then, especially after his grandchildren were born, it became a tradition for him to travel with his entire family to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, often with a visit to the Dixie Stampede for entertainment. Notably, he was always proud of a big trip he took with his wife, her sister, and her husband to Israel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Hallie Evans; two brothers, Gene and Johnny Evans; and two sisters, Jewel Lambdin and Louise Leech. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Roberta “Pat”; son, Mark Evans (Kellie Coates); daughter, Leslie Evans-Ealy; five grandchildren, Jamie (Kyle) Norman, Marrissa (Josh) Hardyman, Chloe Ealy, Evan Ealy, and Aaron Ealy; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Lane, and soon-to-be-born, Cambri; three brothers, Bill (Lela) Evans, Jack (Robin) Evans, and Mike (Vicky) Evans; and two sisters, Opal (Jack) Burns and Sue (Dale) Russell.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday, February 14, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Pastor Matt Hinkle will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
