Darryl E. Hamilton's Obituary
HAMILTON, Darryl E., age 64, of Spring Valley and formerly of Jamestown, passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, at Miami Valley Hospital.
Darryl graduated from Xenia High School, class of ’77. A printer all his working life, he retired last year from Lorenz Publishing in Dayton. In addition, he was a member of the Revealed Truth Tabernacle in Springboro.
Selfless, giving, sarcastic, and goofy, Darryl had a great sense of humor and loved to make his friends and family laugh. Additionally, he was helpful and encouraging to people and often used humor to brighten the spirit of those feeling down.
From age 6, he started playing musical instruments, including the organ, piano, and guitar. Earlier in his life, it was common for Darryl to participate in jam sessions with his cousins, but due to his love of playing music and singing, he was known to entertain people wherever he went. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed anything that involved nature. Cowan Lake and Watts Bar Lake in Tennessee were some of his preferred locations to enjoy his favorite outdoor hobby, fishing. In addition, he often took his children to pay lakes in the Blanchester area and beyond, which remain as some of their favorite memories with their dad. He also enjoyed hunting, especially with his beloved dogs, mushroom hunting in the spring, and hiking. He loved visiting auctions in search of something special or overlooked by others. Specifically, he took pride in finding an old piece of furniture that he could restore to its former glory. While his wife was living, they would go to the auctions almost every Friday and Saturday for fun. In the last several years, he has traveled with his cousin, Jeff, to Amish Country to visit antique malls, Amish shops, and his favorite restaurant, Paxton’s Grill. It was also a tradition for Darryl to enjoy a road trip on Sunday afternoons for the simple joy of driving and going for a ride. Among many things, he will be remembered for how proud he was of his kids and grandchildren and how much he loved his dogs, especially his German Shepherd, Sharon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta; his parents, Charles and Mary Jane Hamilton; and his father-in-law, Vernon Moore. He is survived by three children, Rebecca (Brian) Freelan, Charles Hamilton, and Laura (Doug) Severt; six grandchildren, Makayla (fiancé, Stephen), Alanna, Haley, Elizabeth, Samuel, and Abigail; two sisters, Teresa (Ron) Wolfenbarger and Kristina (Rob) Callaway; brother, Stephen (Regina) Hamilton; and mother-in-law, Clasie Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Friday, March 31, at Found By Faith Ministries in Harveysburg. Alexander Magoulas will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends 4 - 6 PM Friday at the church. If desired, contributions may be made to Friends of Cowan Lake, accessible via this link: http://www.cowanlakestatepark.com.
