David A. Dixon's Obituary
DIXON, David A., age 75, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Miami Valley Hospital.
David graduated from Lakota High School and served in the U.S. Navy. In the Navy, he was a corpsman and ran a cardiac unit. He retired as a medical technician from Wright Patterson Air Force Base in 1994 after more than 30 years of service.
David was a member, and assistant pastor, at the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Waynesville. He preferred to call himself a “helper” instead of assistant pastor, but in recent years he was integral to the success of the church and the success of the lead pastor.
Dependent, loyal, quick-witted, funny, and ornery when he was younger, David was also family oriented and was known to enjoy fixing things up. He greatly enjoyed gardening and keeping his yard and flowers in top shape. He won Lebanon’s Beautiful Yard award two separate times over the years. He enjoyed gardening so much that he often assisted others with their flowers and yards as well. He also enjoyed traveling and had the opportunity to travel all over the world during his life. Some of his favorite travels were cruises to Greece and the Caribbean, Alaska, Spain, and Israel. In fact, he liked visiting Israel so much that he traveled there six times. He also managed to travel via several church related mission trips, with Romania and Nicaragua being his favorites. Among many things, the numerous family trips to the Smokey Mountains were some of the favorite times of his life. His sweet dog, Mugsy, who always seemed to favor him, certainly brought joy to his life as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Elsie Dixon, one sister Donna Dixon, and sister-in-law Deborah Dixon. He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Lora; son Rodney (Marlene) Long; two grandchildren Roderic (Danielle) Long and Bettina (Emmanuel) Shobanke; two great grandchildren Lilah and Weston; five brothers Howard C. (Gwen) Dixon, Gordon (Fran) Dixon, John Dixon, Michael Dixon, and Gary (Wanda) Dixon; and sister Debra (Chuck) Reeder.
Funeral services will be held Noon Saturday, August 29 at Full Gospel Church in Waynesville. Rev. Tim Noble will be officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. The family will receive friends 10 AM - Noon Saturday at Full Gospel Tabernacle. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Abundant Life Missions, Inc, 9440 Eby Rd., Germantown, OH 45327.
