David Lee Scherer's Obituary
SCHERER, David Lee, age 84, of Kettering, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2025, at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton.
David honorably served in the United States Air Force. Following his time in the military, he served as a deputy sheriff in Warren County. He retired in the early 2000s as a printer for the Sun Sentinel in Deerfield Beach, Florida, after a career spanning 25 years in media. He was a member of the Kettering Church of the Ascension for over 40 years.
Easygoing, fun, adventurous, loving, and humorous, David was friendly and well liked by everyone. He was very artistic and enjoyed being creative in both his work as a copy artist and in art projects. Specifically, he ran a ceramic and plastics store on Wayne Avenue, which he was always proud of. In addition, he performed repairs and creations of religious statues and other items of inspiration, both while living in Dayton and in Florida. Over the years, he worked and contributed pieces to both the Dayton Daily News and the Sun Sentinel. Among many things, David will be remembered for his love of his family, who he always put them first. In addition, he was an animal lover, particularly Long-haired Dachshund, which he bred and raised. He was always proud that he won the lottery - twice. Specifically, he won the Pick 3 drawing.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Cecelia Scherer Sr., and three brothers, Roy, Paul Jr., and Richard Scherer. He is survived by his wife of nearly 61 years, Irene; son David (Susan) Scherer Jr.; daughter, Irene Scherer; six grandchildren, Stephen, Jessica, Randy, Danielle, Lauren, and Ligia; and great-granddaughter, Abrinna.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025, at the Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering, Ohio 45420. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
