Elsie M. Stephens' Obituary
STEPHENS, Elsie M., a strong woman of faith, age 89, of Waynesville, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at Ohio Living Quaker Heights in Waynesville.
Elsie worked as a Reader’s Digest machine operator at Dayton Press, retiring in 1980 after 30 years of service. After her official retirement, she continued to work for 19 years as a home care aide. When discussing her time as a home care aide, she once said, “she loved every minute of her time caring for people.” In addition, she was a long-standing member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Waynesville.
Independent, motherly, caring, and funny, Elsie loved entertaining her family and friends. She greatly enjoyed cooking and will always be remembered for her excellent fried corn, cornbread, and strawberry cake. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening and reading and studying the Bible. Always praying, her priorities and pride were in her faith in God, her church, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Gribble; her parents, Lewis and Mary Lamb; four brothers, Earl, Boyd, Eddie, and Ray Lamb; and her sisters, Arlene Estes, Stella Preston, Bessie Fouch, Marie Isaacs, Louise Brixley, Evaline Fairchild, and two infants sisters, Maxine and Bernice. She is survived by two sons, David Scott and Chuck Stephens; son-in-law, Jeff Gribble; granddaughter, Melisa (Joe) de la Cruz; two great-granddaughters, Emery and Livia; and one brother, Harold Lamb.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM Thursday, January 5, at Full Gospel Tabernacle in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Pastor Tim Noble and Bernice Robbins will be leading the services. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 1 PM Thursday at Full Gospel Tabernacle. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family.
