Faye Evelyn Henderson's Obituary
HENDERSON, Faye Evelyn (née Creech), age 94, of Waynesville, passed away on Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties.
Faye was born on October 12, 1930, at home in Jackson, Ohio, on Columbus Day, known as Indigenous Day today. Faye was the fourth child of seven surviving children from Roy T. Creech and Anna M. (née Klitz) Creech.
Faye often remembered moving as a child, as her father sought work to support their large family. Her mother, Anna, was originally from Wisconsin. Her father and mother met while he was working in Wisconsin, and later, they settled in Ohio. Faye was one of two living children, along with her youngest sister, Fern Morgan. In the last few years, the two sisters shared voting, haircuts, mammograms, and of course, sibling quibbles. Faye was the second mother to her three younger sisters, Louise, Doris, and Fern. Her mother relied upon her help with household chores and duties. Having six siblings meant that she had a very close-knit family. They especially enjoyed attending the Creech family reunions upon moving back to Ohio. The entire family would get together often for holidays and the 4th of July, where you could count on homemade ice cream and rhubarb crisp.
Faye met her future husband, G. Douglas "Doug" Henderson, when her family moved to the farm up the road from The Henderson Farm. She attended Waynesville High School from her sophomore year until graduation, class of ‘48. She participated in basketball, plays, and prom with her good friends, Norma Stratton and Phyllis Hartsock. The three remained good friends, and together they attended high school class reunions and class gatherings. Faye oversaw the flower fund for the alumni class of 1948 at Waynesville. Monthly, they would get together for luncheons or picnics at Caesar Creek Lake.
Faye and Doug were married on February 5, 1949. They celebrated 68 years of marriage when Doug passed away on August 30, 2017. They had two daughters, their first daughter, Belinda Kay (née Henderson) Hausman, and their second daughter, Melissa Ann (née Henderson) Bogdanoff. Faye continued to support Doug during her lifetime, helping him with his television career. A few of the places they lived included Middletown, Phoenix, Kettering, Pittsburgh, Framingham, Detroit, Atlanta, Memphis, and the Henderson Farm Development. She was a stay-at-home wife and mother, but she was also employed by the Jordan Marsh Department Store for ten years. Frequently on Fridays, Faye brought JM Bakery's blueberry muffins, apple turnovers, and strawberry tarts home for the weekend to her family's delight.
Faye was a volunteer and reading tutor when her daughter, Belinda, was a third-grade teacher for Wildwood Elementary School in Middletown. Even though she lived far away from her family and grandchildren, she enjoyed spending time with her sons-in-law, Daniel Hausman of Middletown and Paul Bogdanoff of Indianapolis; her three grandchildren, James Capes and Alisa (née Hausman) Capes of Amarillo, Texas, Todd Hausman and Shelly (née Benesh) Hausman of Mountain View, California, and Ryan Kemmer and Aleksa (née Bogdanoff) Kemmer of Fishers, Indiana; and her four great-grandchildren, Brittany MacKeown, Danielle MacKeown, Mathias Hausman, and Greta Hausman.
She became a wonderful cook, loving to try new recipes and developing an interest in learning about nutritious foods. While living in New England, she focused her dishes on fish and seafood. Her dishes were a far cry from Mr. Paul’s fish sticks. It was important to her to be dressed appropriately for the occasion. She also enjoyed learning to knit. In her younger days, she looked forward to bowling with her friends and was part of a league. She made friends all over the continental United States and enjoyed traveling with them. One of her more cherished memories was taking a cruise to Alaska. Through her husband’s position at work, they were able to travel to several places, especially to Las Vegas several times. Many memorable girls’ trips with her daughters and granddaughter, Aleksa, were on her birthday to Nashville, Indiana, Richmond, Indiana, and to the Waynesville Tea Room. While there, they enjoyed shopping and having a peaceful lunch. One of the last trips was to watch the Barbie Movie in Indianapolis, Indiana. She loved sending handwritten cards to family and friends regularly and was known for her tradition of doing so. She cherished the many cards she received from family and friends over the years, as well, and kept each one. Faye wanted to be a nurse, but she was not afforded the opportunity. However, she was always supportive of her daughters' education, independence, and love of family.
Faye was preceded in death by her loving husband, Doug Henderson, in 2017; her parents, Roy and Anna Creech; her two brothers, Gerald and Ralph Creech; and her three sisters, Eunice, Louise, and Doris. She is survived by her two daughters, Belinda (Daniel) Hausman and Melissa (Paul Bogdanoff) Henderson; three grandchildren, Alisa (James) Capes, Todd (Shelly) Hausman, and Aleksa (Ryan) Kemmer; four great-grandchildren, Brittany MacKeown, Danielle MacKeown, Mathias Hausman, and Greta Hausman; and one sister, Fern Morgan.
The family will receive friends from 12 - 1 PM on Saturday, November 15, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A life celebration service will immediately be held at 1 PM on Saturday, November 15, at the funeral home, with Dr. Dan Flory officiating the service.
