Freddie D. Brown's Obituary
BROWN, Freddie “Fred” D., age 83, of Waynesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Hospice of Dayton.
Fred was born December 31, 1940, in Memphis, Tennessee. He graduated from Treadwell High School, class of ’59. On September 30, 1961, he married Sandy Dillinger and was blessed with nearly fifty-eight years of marriage. In 2000, he officially retired from GM-Frigidaire as a foreman after 35 years of service.
Faith in Jesus was a big part of Fred’s life. He would wake up every morning, read the word of God, and pray for his family. He was active at the Xenia Church of God for over thirty-one years. He served as the clerk and Sunday school superintendent for several years. In addition, for the last thirty-two years, he has enjoyed attending Solid Rock Church in Lebanon, where he became close friends with numerous members and was loved by his long-time pastor and friend, Darlene Bishop-Driscoll. He was indeed a man of God.
Very wise, easygoing, and intelligent, Fred was very thoughtful and slow to speak his mind. He always wanted to weigh the pros and cons before speaking, almost like he was creating a mental spreadsheet. Often, you would find him tinkering in his garage, working on old cars, and fixing something with his collection of Craftsman tools. In his later years, he enjoyed the challenge that a complex jigsaw puzzle could provide. He was very proud of his family and immensely enjoyed traveling, creating memories, looking at maps, and figuring out how to use a smartphone as an aging senior! One of his favorite places to travel was out west. He also spent a lot of time in Florida while his mom lived there and thoroughly enjoyed daily long talks with his brother, Terry. Among many things, he will be remembered for the “$50 hidden fold-ups” he carried in his wallet, stories about his hunting trips to Wyoming, and poems he would write at holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Sandy Brown, in 2019 and his parents, Oscar Brown and Loach Schwendeman. He is survived by his two daughters, Janell (Rob) Duley and Jill (Ben) Hodges; six grandchildren, Brandon(Faith) Duley, Kyle Duley, Ellen (Omayya) Atout, Connor (Rachel) Hodges, Maxwell Hodges, and John Ryan (Elyssa) Hodges; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Duley, Madison Duley, Layla Atout, and Dany Atout; two great-grandchildren on the way; his brother, William Terry (Joan) Brown; “honorary daughter” Regina Ellis, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 – 6 pm on Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Stratford Heights Church of God in Middletown. A funeral service will be held Monday, April 15, at 10:30 am at Stratford Heights Church of God with Pastor Ben Hodges, Pastor Darlene Bishop-Driscoll, and Pastor Ray Phillips officiating. A live stream of the service will be available at www.shcog.com/live. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia, Ohio. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville, is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Solid Rock Church. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
