Garnett D. Hendrickson's Obituary
HENDRICKSON, Garnett D., age 87, of Waynesville, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022, in Florence, Kentucky.
Garnett earned a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky. She worked for more than 25 years as a school teacher. She mainly taught English at Wayne Local Schools in Waynesville and Berry Middle School in Lebanon, ultimately retiring from Lebanon. Over the years, she attended the Methodist church in Waynesville and Florence, Kentucky.
Sweet, caring, easygoing, simple, and occasionally ornery, Garnett loved UK sports, quilting, painting and drawing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Reading was her passion, with romance novels, mysteries, and especially James Patterson novels being her favorites. It became a tradition for Garnett to travel with her son, daughter-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to the beach each year. The Outer Banks of North Carolina became a go-to destination for most of those years. In her later years, she spent the winters in Florida, which she loved. The family will never forget her for her delicious soup beans, half runners, and cornbread that she often served.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Morris Hendrickson; her parents, Bennie and Hazel Dyer; and one brother, Huckleberry Dyer. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David (Cindy) Hendrickson and John (Cindy) Hendrickson; four grandchildren, Ryan (Justin), Melissa (Ryan), Krystal (Jeff), and Ashley; seven great-grandchildren, Killian, Anya, Delilah, Joey, Jj, Aiden, and Levi; one sister, Betty Rae (Bill) Johnson; and sister-in-law, Charlotte Bolen; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will receive friends from Noon - to 1 PM Monday, June 20, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will be held at 1 PM Monday at the funeral home, with burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
