Gene Rice's Obituary
RICE, Gene age 92 of Wilmington and formerly of Waynesville passed away Sat. June 21, 2014 at Clinton Memorial Hospital. Born Nov. 9, 1921 in Booneville, KY to the late Chester and Esther Rice. Gene was a WWII Army veteran, having served in the Philippines and southeast and received Purple Hearts and Bronze Stars for his service. In Feb. 2012, he received a certificate declaring him a Kentucky Colonel by Gov. Beshear of KY. He retired from GM in 1981 after 30 years of service. A member of the Full Gospel Tabernacle in Waynesville, he also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Etta in 2003; one son Keith Rice; two grandchildren; his parents Chester and Esther Rice; and three brothers Robert, Elwood, and Carl Rice. He is survived by 7 sons Dellus (Vicki) Rice, David (Tina) Rice, Darrell Rice (Pat Bishop), Dorman (Brenda) Rice, Marcus (Susie) Rice, Dwayne Rice, and Phillip (Vanessa) Rice; three daughters Joyce (Kenny) Naylor, Phyllis Smith (Ron Thompson), and Deanna Rice (Joe Monnin); daughter-in-law Beth Rice; 31 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; two brothers Delbert and Earl Rice; two sisters Eudella (Ralph) Neeley and Velma Roberts; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services 11 AM Thurs. June 26 at Full Gospel Tabernacle 8551 Ferry Rd, Waynesville, OH 45068. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will be at Miami Cemetery, Corwin.
