Harriett E. McMillan's Obituary
McMillan, Harriett Eliza, longtime resident of Waynesville and recently of Otterbein-Lebanon, passed away Fri. Aug. 15, 2008. She was born Nov. 26, 1915 in Warren County where she lived most of her life. She attended Rock School and Lebanon High School graduating suma-cumlaude. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert and their infant son, by her parents, Mary Jones and Wymer Downey, a sister, Doris Jean, and two brothers, Bill and Bob Downey. Three children survive Harriett: Mary Jean French of Nokomis, Florida, Janet Ann Jones of Waynesville, & Linda Ellen McMillan of Lebanon. Also surviving are nine grandchildren: Jim Pence, Kelly Valle, Rob Line, Dan Line, Kris Line, Holly Prows, Hearther Line, Heidi Gibson and Kerry Fuller; Twenty two great-grandchildren: Tyler, Erin, Andra, Dallan, Megan, Jay, Jyle, Marie, Ana, Lauren, Weston, Dain, Samuel, Braedon, Addison, McKenna, Jacob, Aubry, Aidan, Halle, Ally, and Jamison; one brother, John Downey; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Downey; & two sons-in-law: Ottie French and Bill Jones; and many nieces and nephews. Harriett was an accomplished pianist, gardener, local artist, and homemaker. She was known for her cake decorating all around Warren County. She loved her kitchen and home on Sixth St. in Waynesville where she lived for 49 years. She loved having family and friends over to entertain, extend friendship, & comfort. Whatever she did, her “artist’s touch” could be observed. Whether canning vegetables from the garden, cooking supper, decorating cakes or painting on canvas…her touch was unique and sense of humor divine. All who knew her loved her. Her love, friendship, service, and devotion to all her family & friends will be her loving legacy to cherish by each one. She lived life as it came to her and did her very best…what she was asked to do. Harriett had a special relationship with her Savior, and He knew her well. The scripture in Romans 8:28 gave her special peace. Funeral services 10 AM Tues. Aug. 19 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home, Waynesville. Burial Miami Cemetery, Corwin.
