Dr. Rev. Hugh A. Whitesell's Obituary
WHITESELL, Dr. Rev. Hugh A., age 92, of Lebanon, passed away Sat. July 7, 2018 at Lebanon Health Care Center.
He was an Episcopalian priest at numerous churches including St. George’s in Centerville, St. Bartholomew’s in Richmond, VA, and St. Mary’s in Waynesville. He retired at the Church of Ascension in Middletown after 44 years of combined service. He was the founder of the Erwin, NC Hospice and was a member of the Rotary Club in Erwin. For all of his life, he focused on his church and his religion. He was a very humble and caring man that loved animals, especially cats and dogs.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth in 2016 and parents Carl A. and Jeanette Whitesell. He is survived by his son Carl (Connie) Whitesell; three grandchildren Thom (Tonia) Freed, Erin (Tip) Stevens, and CJ (Jenny) Whitesell; one great grandchild; three step great grandchildren; one sister-in-law Linda Osterman; niece Betsy (George) Graham; nephew Brian Jackson; two great nieces; and one great nephew.
Memorial service will be 11 AM Sat. Sept. 15 at St. George's Episcopal Church in Centerville. Following the service, there will be a gathering in the fellowship hall of the church featuring desserts (since Hugh always had a sweet tooth).
