Imogene "Jean" Elliott's Obituary
ELLIOTT, Imogene “Jean,” age 94, of Waynesville, passed away Thanksgiving morning, November 24, 2022, at Kettering Washington Township Hospital.
Jean graduated Salutatorian from Butler High School in Kentucky. She worked for approximately 20 years in various roles for the Waynesville National Bank. She was an active participant and member of the Waynesville Church of Christ and the Waynesville Church of the Nazarene through the years. She attended Crossview Christian Church in Waynesville in recent years with her daughter. She was also a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution).
Sweet, kind-hearted, giving, and helpful, Jean was soft-mannered but determined in her commitment to God, family, and community. A pastor’s daughter, she was faithful and dedicated to bringing people to the Lord and assisting in projects in her church. For many years, she supported the Frazier family and their missions work in Africa. She taught Sunday and Bible School for many years and led many children and adults to the Lord via her dedication and influence. In addition, she made it a point to provide transportation to church for the neighborhood children. Regarding hobbies, she greatly enjoyed reading in general, but reading her Bible was always her highest priority. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Along with her husband, they grew enough beans to can 300 jars each year for the cooler months. They also canned corn, tomatoes, and several other garden delectables.
Family traditions mainly included travel. As one of 10 children, it was tradition each year to travel to her mom’s home in Kentucky, along with all her siblings and their families, for a traditional Christmas holiday celebration and family get-together. In addition, while the children were being raised, Jean and her siblings traveled to Myrtle Beach each summer for a traditional camping/beach vacation, often numbering so many people that the restaurants had to split the family into several groups to accommodate them all. It was also a tradition for Jean to join her husband and son on a yearly Canadian fishing trip, but she was more fond of cooking the fish than actually going out to fish. Among many things, and in addition to her unwavering dedication to God, she will be remembered for her pride in her family and her friendship to all. One of her favorite things was to make a large amount of vegetable soup to share with all her neighborhood friends, which she delivered to their door. In addition, at the age of 70, Jean traveled to the Holy Land, where she was baptized in the Jordan River and walked in the same footsteps where Jesus taught. That trip was the highlight of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl, in 2006; one daughter, Kathie Jo Ware; her parents, Pastor Meredith and Belva Leadingham; five brothers; and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Beckett; son, Carl Douglas (Cindy) Elliott; seven grandchildren, Julie (Joe) Kulik, Jennifer (Jeff) Currey, Jaime (Mark) Campbell, Bradley (Brio) Beckett, Brett Beckett, Joseph Elliott, and Ethan Elliott; six great-grandchildren, Brooke, Ben, Lilly, Sammy, Patrick, and Braden; two great-great-grandchildren, Noah and Nash; one brother, Lawrence (Jean) Leadingham; and one sister, Pat Freeman.
Funeral services will be held at Noon Saturday, December 3, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Grandson, Brad Beckett, will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends one hour before the Saturday service at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to Crossview Christian Church Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
