James "Jim" M. Brothers Sr.'s Obituary
BROTHERS, James “Jim” M., Sr., age 80, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, September 9, 2022, at his residence.
Jim was an Army veteran. He worked in excavation for over 35 years. Early in his career, he worked at Armitage in Lebanon but ultimately owned and operated his own business, JM Brothers Construction, for most of his working career. He primarily focused on the installation of septic systems for his customers. In addition, he was a member of Fellowship of Praise Church in Clarksville for nearly 20 years.
Quiet and somewhat reserved, Jimmy was strong-willed yet extremely caring. He especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had a special bond with the two grandchildren he raised. Friends and family respected him, and his family always knew that if Jim said something was going to be done a certain way, it would get done right and his way. In his younger days, he enjoyed ham radio and was known as “Lug Wrench.” He owned boats virtually his entire adult life and greatly enjoyed boating for fishing and watersports, especially if his grandchildren joined in on the fun. He was a great water skier and loved showing off his talents behind the boat. Fishing was a passion, especially when trying to land salmon and walleye accompanied by his dear friend, Ted Speaks. Growing up, he and his dad developed a habit of building fishing poles and lures together and traveled to Lake Erie many times to fish. In the later part of his life, Jim owned at least 125 fishing poles and many lures, most of which were homemade. He made an office where he could show off his many fishing poles and lures and was always proud when friends came to view his collection. In addition, he kept many other family mementos in that office, including pictures of his parents, his brother’s jacket, and other sentimental items of his late brother. Mechanically inclined, Jim enjoyed mechanic work and working on cars. He built several cars and had a special fondness for hot rods.
He had traditions that became dear to him over the years. For many years, he was actively involved in the family reunions on his mom’s side, affectionately referred to as the Bravard Reunion. It was held in Kentucky for several years during September and was an important tradition to Jim. In addition, while his children were young, he took them to Cades Cove near Gatlinburg in the summer each year to go camping. They also took several camping trips to Florida, which he always loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Mary Lorine Brothers, and two brothers, Eddie and David Brothers. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pamela; three sons, Randy Brothers, David (Lorinda) Brothers, and Jody (Diana) Brothers; daughter, Jamie (Craig) Marlor; 11 grandchildren, Tiffany, Ashley, Summer, Houston, Samuel, Haley, Joel, Kristen, David Lee, Sierra, Dillon, two great-granddaughters who he raised like his own children, Kylee and Shealynn; 20 additional great-grandchildren and three additional on the way; one brother, Paul (Barbara) Brothers; one sister, Patty (Rusty) Leyes; and two sisters-in-law Barb Rigutto and Shirley Ramsey.
The family will receive friends 6 - 8 PM Friday, September 16, 2022, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A funeral service will be held 11 AM Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Fellowship of Praise Church in Clarksville. Pastor Matt Morgan will be officiating the services. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
