James "Jim" E. Chenoweth's Obituary
CHENOWETH, James “Jim” E., age 79, of Waynesville, passed away Saturday,
January 13, 2024.
Jim earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the University of Cincinnati. He worked as a research engineer at Wright Patterson Air Force Base his entire career. He was a member of the Olive Branch Church and the Senior Center at the Countryside YMCA in Lebanon.
Outgoing, giving, caring, friendly, and full of life, Jim was detail-oriented via his engineering background. Socializing with people was one of his favorite hobbies. He could be found playing cards with friends at the YMCA and talking with anyone he came in contact with. He had a lifetime appreciation for cars, especially if it was a good deal. He enjoyed researching genealogy with his brother, Bill, and faithfully decorated his family’s graves. He sang bass in the Cincinnati Delta Kings Barbershop Chorus, which gave him an immense amount of pride. He participated with the Chorus in numerous events, most notably the Valentine’s Cabaret. He loved to travel and had an extensive knowledge of where to find a good meal. He dearly loved his wife, Carolyn, spending time with family, and serving His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in the church. He became a Christian as a young man but grew tremendously in his walk with Christ after suffering a stroke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn, in 2002; his parents, Earl and Marie Chenoweth; and his brother, Herman “Bill” Chenoweth. He is survived by his sister, Patricia L. (Larry) Whalen; nephew, Steve (Julie) Whalen; niece, Sherry (Kevin) Johnson; step-sons, Scott, Mike, Kevin, and Greg Elcook; step-daughter, Patsy Stover; several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12 PM Wednesday, January 17, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason. Pastor Steve Whalen (Jim’s nephew) will be officiating the services. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
