James "Jim" E. Bingham Sr.'s Obituary
BINGHAM, James “Jim” E. Sr., age 74, of Waynesville, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2022, at his residence.
Jim was charismatic, very friendly, enjoyed talking to everyone, and never met a stranger. He was very upbeat, outgoing, and loved by everyone who got to know him. Every year he looked forward to Halloween to see all the local neighboring kids’ costumes. Jim and his wife, Joanna, started camping with a travel trailer in 1995 and have enjoyed it ever since. They enjoyed the aspect of getting away. They didn’t have a specific place they always went to and just liked being together. The first weekend of April each year, they looked forward to camping and going on a new adventure. After retirement, they took a five-week trip traveling out west and visiting National Parks.
He was always busy and looked forward to different activities to occupy his time. He was very particular about his yard and even took a bucket to pull and collect the weeds. He never shied away from helping Joanna with the housework and would mop, vacuum, and keep everything tidy. His love for Joanna was never-ending, and for 45 years, they made it a tradition to collect a new Christmas tree ornament that was dated for that current year. Woodworking was more than just a hobby to Jim. He had the ability to turn ordinary everyday wood pieces into beautiful pieces of artwork. He created anything from name scrolls and jewelry boxes to frames. He also made tables and other items of furniture for friends and family members. Among many things, he will be remembered for his abundant love of his family.
He was preceded in death by his son, James Bingham, Jr., in 2016; his parents, Beeler and Christine Bingham; his brother, David Bingham; and his sister Beverly Gilpin. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Joanna; his two sons, Anthony (Stacey) Bingham and Michael “Wade” (Bev) Bingham; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three brothers, Beeler “Dewitt” (Dixie) Bingham, Elston (Renee) Bingham, and Gordon Bingham; and four sisters, Donna Theresa (Charles) Williams, Deborah (Dennie) Hunt, Nancy Tubbs, and Melinda (Jeff) Davis.
