Jim graduated from Harveysburg High School, class of ’61. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam era. He retired from General Motors in 1997 after 30 years of service to the company.
Fun-loving, outgoing, caring, and a guy who seemed to know everyone, Jim loved to laugh and pick at others in a fun way. He was sentimental toward things that belonged to his parents and other items from the years while he was growing up. Also during his younger years, he kept horses and enjoyed trail riding, which he passed on to his daughter while she was young. His other hobbies included playing cards at the Harveysburg VFW and fishing. For a while, he owned a home on Weis Lake in Alabama for fishing, In addition, he traveled to Norris Lake and rented a houseboat with his work buddies many times to fish. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he enjoyed the holidays with his family, and for the way he made the holidays special for everyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Louise McCarren, and one sister, Reba Hesler. He is survived by his loving daughter, Jeannine (Jordan) Bowdle; a granddaughter who he adored, Katie Cox; son, Jay (Lorrie) McCarren; and nieces and nephews, Joni Duggins, Doug (Yvonne) Hesler, Jani (John) Anderson, Mark (Benita) Hesler, Ray (Paula) Hesler, Jeni (Kevin) Schoonover, and Daniel Hesler.
