James Lowell Squire Richard's Obituary
RICHARD, James Lowell Squire, LtCol. U.S. Marine Corps (Retired), of Waynesville and formerly of Centerville, was called to active duty with the Army of the Heavenly Hosts of the Lord Jesus Christ on November 27, 2023.
Squire was born on 29 April 1929 in Fostoria, OH. He is survived by Patricia, his wife of 73 years; sons, Dr. J. Randall (De) Richard & family of Greenwich, OH, Marc (Julie) Richard & family of Centerville, OH, and John (Karen) Richard and family of Lebanon, OH; daughter, Susan (Jake) Mitchell and family of Waynesville, OH; 14 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his baby daughter, Sallie Marie; his parents, Park & Marshalena Richard of Warren, OH; and brothers, Parke Eugene Richard of Warren, OH and John Richard of Fostoria, OH.
Squire earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Education from Bowling Green State University. In addition, he earned a Master’s Degree in Cost Accounting from George Washington University and a Master’s Degree in Logistics from the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School - Monterey. After retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps, he worked and retired from the NCR Corporation and the CompuNet Clinical Laboratory.
He was a past president of the Dayton Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Man’s Fellowship International. In addition, he was a long-time Chaplain of the Miami Valley Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter-97; and Field Music of the Dayton Detachment, Marine Corps League.
Outgoing, hardworking, generous, kind, and loving, Squire was fiercely proud of his country, the Marines, and his military career. He was a lifelong musician, specifically a trombone, jazz double bass, and keyboard player, church/youth group choir director, and played Taps for countless Vietnam veterans’ funerals. His other hobbies included tennis and golf. Squire had a tradition of spending quality time on Mackinaw Island for rest and relaxation, going on family bike rides, and playing the harmonica for family birthday celebrations. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he loved his two dogs, Max and Ginger.
The family will receive friends from Noon - 2 PM on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. A celebration of life service will immediately follow, starting at 2 PM at the funeral home, followed by a committal service in Miami Cemetery with full military honors. Jarrod Colston will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Squire’s memory to the American Diabetes Association.
