Jerry L. Neeley's Obituary
NEELEY, Jerry L., age 78, of Waynesville, passed away at his residence on Monday, May 16, 2022.
Hardworking with an incredible work ethic, Jerry worked his entire life in the construction business, performing such tasks as painting, drywall, and virtually anything else necessary to complete a home or business’ interior appearance. In addition, for nearly ten years, he operated and worked at a Girl Scout Camp, where he dedicated countless hours of care toward the lives of local young ladies and their families.
He was a faithful member of Dodds Pentecostal Church near Waynesville. Along with his unending faith in God, attending church with his wife was always his number one priority during his life.
Giving, helpful, and independent, Jerry had a great sense of humor and was a dedicated provider for his family. He was always building or working on something and became known for his ability and willingness to fix mowers and other equipment for family and friends. His hobbies included fishing, raising bird dogs, hunting pheasant and quail, and rooting on his favorite college football team, The OSU Buckeyes. He also enjoyed camping with the grandkids at Thousand Trails RV Park near Wilmington, where they will never forget the vast breakfasts he helped prepare each morning. Spending time with the grandkids and great-grandkids became one of his favorite pastimes. The weekly trips with his wife visiting garage sales also became a fond tradition, mainly searching for bargains and deals. Nightly board games, especially Parcheesi, with family also became a tradition that Jerry always looked forward to, even when he became ill. Perhaps, some of his fondest memories were the yearly trips with his family to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge, almost always in a hotel on Music Row so the grandkids and great-grandkids could enjoy the swimming pool. They almost always included a visit to the Dixie Stampede and The Old Mill Restaurant as part of the festivities. Among many things, he will be remembered for how much he loved ice cream, cake, and the start of every day with hot coffee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Geraldine Neeley; one brother, James Donald Neeley; and three sisters, Margie Neeley, Pauline McDonald, and Norma Jean Neeley. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda; three children, Jerry Neeley Jr., Melissa Crutchfield, and Donald Neeley; four grandchildren, Nicholas Neeley, Haley (Ed) Carlin, Joshua Pickett, and Liam Neeley; two great-grandchildren, Jaxson and Abigail; five brothers, Dave (Shelly) Neeley, Tom (Billie) Neeley, Zach Neeley, John Neeley, and Dan Neeley; one sister, Jamie Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 5 - 8 PM Thursday, May 19, at Dodds Pentecostal Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday at the church, with Kelly Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Corwin. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of Dayton.
