Jerry L. Shaffer's Obituary
SHAFFER, Jerry L., age 76, of Waynesville, passed away Mon. April 15, 2019 at his residence.
Jerry graduated from Waynesville High School, class of ’60. He served in the Army National Guard from 1965-70. While he worked a few years at NCR and a few more years as an over the road driver for Valley Steel in Clarksville, it was farming that he dedicated his life to. As a lifelong farmer, he grew up learning the business from his parents and ultimately raised his kids on the farm.
Loud, happy-go-lucky, colorful, a jokester, and often stubborn, Jerry could be described as one-of-a-kind and the type of guy who could insult you and make you love him all at the same time. His hobbies included drag racing his ’57 Chevy, bird hunting (especially with his favorite dog, Brownie), watching basketball, the Cincinnati Reds, and other sports, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was also very fond of his chickens and was known to gamble from time to time. As part owner of S&S Stables, he also enjoyed harness racing.
He was preceded in death by an infant son Jerry Keith; his parents Lester and Doris Shaffer; and his brother John Shaffer. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Alexin; daughter Staci Shaffer (Tim Lile); two sons Keith (Connie) Shaffer and Mike (Jaime) Shaffer; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Mary Shaffer and Audrey Braden; brother-in-law Allen (Pat) Corby; three nephews; and two nieces.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Sat. April 20 at Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville. Wendell Amburgy will be officiating the service. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 1 PM Sat. at the funeral home. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. Condolences at www.stubbsconner.com.
