Jess D. "Danny" Pennington's Obituary
Pennington, Jess D. "Danny", age 78 of Lebanon passed away with his family by his side Thursday, November 19th, 2020 at his residence after a long struggle with cancer.
Dan graduated from Harveysburg High School, class of 1959. He continued his education with various training schools over the years.
Dan retired after 50+ years of “pulling wrenches” as a heavy equipment mechanic. He worked for different companies and ended his work career at Earth & Pipe Contracting, Inc. in Spring Valley, Ohio.
He was a longtime member of Urbancrest Baptist Church in Lebanon. Dan loved his church family and served the Lord faithfully as a Deacon, Trustee, and in many other ways.
Dan was kind & loving, a little bit ornery, and was the best husband and father a family could have. Dan enjoyed being with his family and celebrating holidays and special occasions together. Christmas Eve tradition was church service, dinner with family, opening presents, and ending with three or four games of pool.
Dan and his wife enjoyed taking long day rides. Although most people would try to avoid construction sites on a ride, Dan always liked to find one or two on any given ride. He loved seeing the latest road building projects. But trains were his real passion, especially steam trains. He always said he was born one generation too late as he would have loved working on the railroad during the steam train era. He loved reading & collecting train related magazines and books. Several vacations with his wife were spent at and around Altoona, Pennsylvania, home of the Pennsylvania Railroad. He was a member of Historical Construction Equipment Association & the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society Inc.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jess D. & Josephine Inez Pennington and his aunt and uncle Robert and Claudia Brandenburg. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret (Roberts) Pennington and his son and daughter-in-law Mark Daniel and Beth (Sibcy) Pennington.
Funeral services will be held 1 PM Tuesday, November 24 at Urbancrest Baptist Church in Lebanon. Tom Pendergrass and Howard Pauley will be officiating. The service will be recorded for playback following the service. If you would like to receive the link to view the recorded funeral service, please email the funeral home at [email protected]. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery. The family will receive friends 11 AM - 1 PM Tuesday at the church. Stubbs-Conner Funeral Home in Waynesville is serving the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Jeri Cook - Be A Light Ministry c/o Urbancrest Baptist Church, 2634 Drake Rd., Lebanon, OH 45036.
